06/28 to 06/30-Streetsboro/Cleveland KOA

06/28 to 06/30

Streetsboro/Cleveland KOA

This KOA was a huge campground for our two-night stay. Well run with a friendly, young staff at check-in. AND they had butter pecan ice cream by the scoop.

Site 707 right next to neighbors....

...Dan/Mel in site 706. Neither of us had sewer. My power source had both 30 & 50 amp service whereas theirs had two 30 amp receptacles. A screw up for sure. They needed their 30 to 50 adapter.

Spacious site at the end with all sites around occupied.

Our second day included a ride on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Train Ride. After checking the website for "what could've been," I came away wondering if we picked the right tour. To use Mel's word, it was "underwhelming. The National Park Scenic departing from Peninsula Depot traveled south 90-minutes to Akron's Northside Station. There, passengers could be dropped off while others boarded for the return 90-minute ride back to Peninsula Depot. Snacks and beverages were available for purchase and the only seating options were in Coach. Although all staff were volunteer "conductors," none took our tickets and there was no narrations along the route. You'll notice few photos simply because there were no "photo ops" to include. Sorry.

After the train ride, The Winking Lizard Tavern nearby had a 30-minute wait. A terrific menu but we passed on it. On the way out...
...I caught a glimpse of the largest slice of carrot cake I've ever seen. Sad to say I never got to taste it.

We opted instead for Mavis Winkle's Irish Pub. Do check out their menus.

My choice to day was their famous Shepard's Pie topped with garlic mashed potatoes an parmesan cheese. I think theirs had minced beef in which case it was Cottage Pie. Shepard's Pie is made with lamb.

And, of course the draft ale to go with it. Delicious.

Throughout the day and evening of our stay, weather alerts gave frequent warning of severe thunderstorms with possible hail and tornadoes. None of it materialized. We were left with just muggy weather with overcast skies. But it was time to go. Short and sweet, our next stop will be in Birch Run, Michigan. It's sticker time. See you there.

"Anticipation is the spark that fuels the journey; every stop is a new chapter waiting to be written."

  1. Do you think "Winking Tavern" and "Winkle's Irish Pub" are kissin' cousins? LOL Too bad about the train trip--the train itself looked authentic--should have been run more professionally. Your Shepard's pie looked scrumptious--and I'm usually not into that kind of stuff. It must be your photographic skills that make everything you eat look so appealing... Happy Trails, babes! D

    1. Absolutely. Knock on wood, things have been amazing. Food, campgrounds, attraction, town and village driven through, and, of course traveling with Dan and Melanie. It's been super and I hope it'll only get better. I'm always working on the next chapter.
